Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 50+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

Take a tour through the first Pharmacy in America and hear about all the twisted medicine throughout the ages, specifically and mostly for “hysterical women”. Although Camille and Tyler took this tour before, Tyler will be hearing most of this info for the first time as he was on the phone with the jewler throughout the entirety of the tour trying to get Camille’s engagement ring shipped to NOLA…

This experience takes you deep into the Manchac Swamp for a look at local flora and fauna and the Cajun town of Frenier. As you travel by boat through the company's private wildlife refuge, you may spot alligators, turtles, raccoons and bald eagles, but the highlight for many reviewers was being able to hold baby gators, and possibly other critters, on board.

You basically can’t leave New Orleans without doing this. Learn about the fascinating history of doing away with the deceased in a city where it’s impossible to keep bodies underground. Also home to the final resting place of the painfully misunderstood “Voodoo Queen” Marie Leveau as well as the future resting place of the equally misunderstood Nicolas Cage. Seriously.

An exceptionally relaxing drink on a hot day. Camille, ever the artichoke dip connoisseur, finds the Napoleon House’s offering to be amongst NOLA’s best.

Whereas anywhere else in town, a vegan po boy means a lettuce sandwich, here you can enjoy creative spins like Thai Tofu, Sweet Potato or pecan butter & jelly. If you still like meat between slices of bread, they also serve inspired takes like black beer braised wagyu beef.

There are old buildings in the French Quarter and then there are old buildings. Now coming up on its 300th birthday, Lafitte’s is reputed to be the oldest building in the U.S. used as a bar. The iconic brick and beam Creole cottage construction is a standout even in a neighborhood of standouts, and is believed to have been the storehouse of New Orleans privateer, read pirate, Jean Lafitte.

Once a space that was only for men, the James Beard Award-winning French 75 continues to evoke the upper crust masculinity of an intimate, upper crust English club. A gorgeous polished bar, circa late 1800s, runs the length of the room. A high quality French 75 (made old school with champagne and cognac) tops the short but eclectic menu of inventive cocktails, all a good value for an upscale venue.

The Sazerac just so happens to be Tyler’s favorite drink and Sazerac Bar is the place where it all started. The Sazerac carries as much history as its potable namesake. Just gazing at the famous Paul Ninas murals flanking the African walnut bar takes you back to the grandeur of old New Orleans.
